Cyprus - April 2014

Last month a group of students of Sant Salvador School visited the island of Cyprus, concretely Paphos. This group was Caterina Serra, Bel Gomila, Isabel Nepola, Pere Antoni Matamales, Colau Flaquer and Miquel Alzina.

The first day we went to the zoo. We went there with the Cypriot students to see a show of birds and also we made a tour. In the evening, we went to have dinner with the teacher (Marga and Tòfol) at a Greek tavern, a typical restaurant of Cyprus. It was a great night because we enjoyed traditional Greek dance and food.

When the week began, we met all the other participants of the Comenius (Denmark, Italy, Germany, and Latvia). They are so sweetie and friendly! Every day we did some activities with recycled material such as a fashion dress, a car, skirts, etc. Also we cooked the traditional dishes of Cyprus. They were delicious! In the afternoon we visited St George area in Kato Paphos. There we could see king’s tombs and the medieval castle.

Next day, we visited Polis and Latsi, traditional villages. We enjoyed Bath Afrodite’s beauty a lot, it was really nice but it rained, unfortunate.

On Wednesday, we did the presentations of every Comenius country. Also, a lot of students showed their typical dances and we danced “Ball de Bot”. It was really funny! In the evening, we rode a horse at countryside. We were really nervous because we had never ridden it.

On Thursday, we did an excursion. We went to Troodos’ mountain and we visited a little village called Omodos. At half past six, started the party, where some Cyprus students showed us different kind of dances. Then, we had dinner at the school with all the students and teachers. The end was nearer, so we said goodbye to Comenius students except the Cyprus guys. We were very lucky because we spent one more day there.

Last day, we passed all the day together: we went to a harbour and there we bought a lot of souvenirs. Then, we had lunch in front of the sea where we ate a lot of fish and shellfish. Next, we went to the beach and all of us swam in the sea. It was the first splash of the year!! Following we made the bags to come back to Mallorca.

Finally, we met in the airport to say “see you later”. It was really sad because we did nice friendships. A part from this, we think that is the end of a new beginning. We never forget this amazing trip and we hope that we will come very soon to Cyprus! Thanks for all!

Roma - February 2014

ROME 2014
ON the 14th of February of this year we visited Italy, concretely Rome and its surrounding villages. For this trip seven students (Bel Soler, Paula Rocha, Caterina Sancho, Esther Rodríguez, Jordi Danús, Carme Llinàs and Antònia Morey) and two teachers (Toni Colomer and Tòfol Massanet) had the chance of enjoying the 5th Comenius visit.
On this occasion the host school was the Instituto Leonardo da Vinci, situated in Fiumicino (a town not far from the city of Rome).  We, the students, were distributed in different villages depending on where our host families lived. Fiumicino, Fregene or Valccaneto were some of the villages where we were staying.
We arrived to Italy on the Friday 14th so that we could enjoy the weekend with our Italian friends. During the weekend we some activities like going to the zoo and some of us and our hosts visited the city of Rome. It was so fun! Apart from these visits the best part was spending time with our friends from Italy. We went out for lunch and dinner and we met some other students we hadn’t met before.
During Sunday and Monday the rest of the countries arrived and we could meet other students. It was a fantastic experience because you find people with very different cultures and you realize that after all we are all the same. Tuesday was the first day we all met at the school. Everyone had prepared a presentation or video about the topic the Italian school had chosen for this trip: in this occasion, eating habits. We were a bit nervous because there were a lot of people in the room but we think we did a good presentation. After the presentations we had lunch and we went to visit Ostia Antica (an archeological site) near Rome. There we had some guides but they were a bit boring and the visit was a bit too long. Once the visit finished we went to our houses.
On Wednesday and Thursday we spent most of the day in the city of Rome because there we did some historical visits and walking tours. The Italian students were our personal guides and they had prepared very good explanations of the places we were visiting. It was good fun because Rome is such an amazing city. We were amazed by its monuments and history and… its food!! Italian food in Italy is much better than in any other part of the world.
Finally on Thursday evening we had the Farewell party in Fiumicino. There was food and all the families were also present. After the dinner there was a disco and we could dance with our friends. When it finished we started to say goodbye to some of them because all had different flights. It was very sad because although it’s just one week, you become close to the students. However, the saddest moment was at the airport when we had to say goodbye to our hosts. We couldn’t stop crying because everything had been fantastic. We invited them to come to Mallorca in summer and we hope they do!!

All in all, the Comenius trip to Rome has been an amazing experience, something we will not forget in our lives!!
