Cyprus - April 2014

Last month a group of students of Sant Salvador School visited the island of Cyprus, concretely Paphos. This group was Caterina Serra, Bel Gomila, Isabel Nepola, Pere Antoni Matamales, Colau Flaquer and Miquel Alzina.

The first day we went to the zoo. We went there with the Cypriot students to see a show of birds and also we made a tour. In the evening, we went to have dinner with the teacher (Marga and Tòfol) at a Greek tavern, a typical restaurant of Cyprus. It was a great night because we enjoyed traditional Greek dance and food.

When the week began, we met all the other participants of the Comenius (Denmark, Italy, Germany, and Latvia). They are so sweetie and friendly! Every day we did some activities with recycled material such as a fashion dress, a car, skirts, etc. Also we cooked the traditional dishes of Cyprus. They were delicious! In the afternoon we visited St George area in Kato Paphos. There we could see king’s tombs and the medieval castle.

Next day, we visited Polis and Latsi, traditional villages. We enjoyed Bath Afrodite’s beauty a lot, it was really nice but it rained, unfortunate.

On Wednesday, we did the presentations of every Comenius country. Also, a lot of students showed their typical dances and we danced “Ball de Bot”. It was really funny! In the evening, we rode a horse at countryside. We were really nervous because we had never ridden it.

On Thursday, we did an excursion. We went to Troodos’ mountain and we visited a little village called Omodos. At half past six, started the party, where some Cyprus students showed us different kind of dances. Then, we had dinner at the school with all the students and teachers. The end was nearer, so we said goodbye to Comenius students except the Cyprus guys. We were very lucky because we spent one more day there.

Last day, we passed all the day together: we went to a harbour and there we bought a lot of souvenirs. Then, we had lunch in front of the sea where we ate a lot of fish and shellfish. Next, we went to the beach and all of us swam in the sea. It was the first splash of the year!! Following we made the bags to come back to Mallorca.

Finally, we met in the airport to say “see you later”. It was really sad because we did nice friendships. A part from this, we think that is the end of a new beginning. We never forget this amazing trip and we hope that we will come very soon to Cyprus! Thanks for all!

Roma - February 2014

ROME 2014
ON the 14th of February of this year we visited Italy, concretely Rome and its surrounding villages. For this trip seven students (Bel Soler, Paula Rocha, Caterina Sancho, Esther Rodríguez, Jordi Danús, Carme Llinàs and Antònia Morey) and two teachers (Toni Colomer and Tòfol Massanet) had the chance of enjoying the 5th Comenius visit.
On this occasion the host school was the Instituto Leonardo da Vinci, situated in Fiumicino (a town not far from the city of Rome).  We, the students, were distributed in different villages depending on where our host families lived. Fiumicino, Fregene or Valccaneto were some of the villages where we were staying.
We arrived to Italy on the Friday 14th so that we could enjoy the weekend with our Italian friends. During the weekend we some activities like going to the zoo and some of us and our hosts visited the city of Rome. It was so fun! Apart from these visits the best part was spending time with our friends from Italy. We went out for lunch and dinner and we met some other students we hadn’t met before.
During Sunday and Monday the rest of the countries arrived and we could meet other students. It was a fantastic experience because you find people with very different cultures and you realize that after all we are all the same. Tuesday was the first day we all met at the school. Everyone had prepared a presentation or video about the topic the Italian school had chosen for this trip: in this occasion, eating habits. We were a bit nervous because there were a lot of people in the room but we think we did a good presentation. After the presentations we had lunch and we went to visit Ostia Antica (an archeological site) near Rome. There we had some guides but they were a bit boring and the visit was a bit too long. Once the visit finished we went to our houses.
On Wednesday and Thursday we spent most of the day in the city of Rome because there we did some historical visits and walking tours. The Italian students were our personal guides and they had prepared very good explanations of the places we were visiting. It was good fun because Rome is such an amazing city. We were amazed by its monuments and history and… its food!! Italian food in Italy is much better than in any other part of the world.
Finally on Thursday evening we had the Farewell party in Fiumicino. There was food and all the families were also present. After the dinner there was a disco and we could dance with our friends. When it finished we started to say goodbye to some of them because all had different flights. It was very sad because although it’s just one week, you become close to the students. However, the saddest moment was at the airport when we had to say goodbye to our hosts. We couldn’t stop crying because everything had been fantastic. We invited them to come to Mallorca in summer and we hope they do!!

All in all, the Comenius trip to Rome has been an amazing experience, something we will not forget in our lives!!

Comenius in Artà

From the 29th of April until the 3rd of May we were happy to host the third visit of our Comenius project “Ways to a greener and healthier Europe”. When we knew that May was the chosen month to celebrate the meeting we all were very happy because, usually, in Mallorca we have fantastic weather around this month and the activities our teachers had prepared and planned implied a lot of outdoors life. However, the previous weekend was very cloud and rainy and we all worried because we thought that we couldn’t do anything with our European friends. As if it was a miracle, the sun appeared when the first countries started to arrive.
We were very excited to see everyone and from the very first night we started to do things with our friends. On Monday night most of us and our hosts went out to eat a kebab in one of the local restaurants. We had fun because there were a lot of new people who we wanted to meet. However, we soon went to bed because our European friends were very tired after their trips.
The following day we all went to the school because we had to do the presentations which were about “Art out of waste” which was the topic chosen for the meeting in Artà. Before the presentations we saw two videos which were about the village of Artà so that everyone could have a better understanding of the place they were. After the videos and the presentations we went to the playground where we had breakfast and, that, we played a gymkhana that our teachers had prepared for us. We had to pass different tests around the village ad take a photo of the places we went so that we could show we were not cheating. It was so much fun but, at the same time, it was extremely hot!!
On the following day we went hiking because it was the 1st of May and on this day it is tradition to climb up a mountain and reach the Hermitage of Artà. We did it and at the top, as tradition says, we all ate a paella. It was fun and the views all along the way were magnificent. On the way back we stopped at a beach where some of us were brave enough to swim. It was fantastic! There, our parents were waiting for us to pick us up and take us to Artà. Once we were back we went for a walk with our friends and spent the rest of the day with them.
Thursday was the day chosen to visit Palma, the capital of Mallorca.  There we went to the most important places such as the old part and the cathedral and we also had time to go shopping. We were free to choose the place where we had to have lunch and so we did. Some preferred more commercial things like McDonald’s and others went to more traditional restaurants to taste Mallorcan food. Around 17’00 a bus was waiting for us and we came back to Artà because at night we had the farewell party!
Around 9 we all met in a restaurant in Artà where we had dinner and celebrated the party. It was fun because after the dinner there was music, dance and even some teachers and students were brave to sing. It was an incredible night but it was a bit sad as well because we started to say goodbye there.
Finally, as usual, the hardest part was saying goodbye. Some of us cried while waving at our friends when they were in the bus.  It was the clasp of a perfect week. We are sure we want to repeat this experience and see our friends again, sooner than later we hop!

Latvia - October 2012

In October of 2012 Maria del Mar Tous, Irene Vicens, Núria Infante, Tòfol Massanet and Pere Riutort travelled to Latvia, specifically to Skrunda.

We spent the first three days in Riga, a wonderful city!! The first meeting with the other countries was inside the bus. We were shy and nervous but we started a conversation very quickly. The trip was very long, so when we arrived at Skrunda we were very tired and all we wanted was to go home and sleep. We met our new families for a week and we felt like home during all the Comenius.

We did some workshops during the experience. We did a research about a plant and then we built that plant with recycled materials. We also spent a night to show typical dances of each country and it was so much fun.

We did a lot of excursions as well: we went to the dairy farm and the smell was disgusting, but we laughed a lot! Another day we went to the eolic headquarters - it was a boring visit, but on the way back to Skrunda we stopped to have dinner at a lovely little restaurant. Another excursion was the visit to a museum of fishes - this one was interesting because we learnt a lot of things and we could see different species of fish. Another day we did a tour through Skrunda to see all the places and we took a lot of pictures. One of the last visits was to the town hall of the village where we learnt different things about Europe, our Comenius, etc. And the last excursion was the visit to a very big forest - we really liked it: it was beautiful and interesting.

The last night we did a party all together and we danced, we sang, we ate... We also took a lot of pictures that now are memories of this wonderful experience! The goodbye was very sad because we had so much fun with the other people during the week and we were sure that we would miss them.

We are very grateful for how the families treated us and we are very happy for the new friendships that were born in Skrunda. The experience of living in a different country was fantastic because we could see how different Latvia and Spain are and how they live there. We would repeat this experience a thousand of times.
Thank you!
